Board-Certified Adult Dermatology

Our dermatologists diagnose and treat the full spectrum of skin diseases, including rashes, eczema/dermatitis, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, warts, skin cancers, and more.

Please click on the Patient Info button in the right-hand column of this page and then click on Information on skin diseases for a detailed description of all of the conditions which we treat.

A few of the many conditions that we treat include:
  • Acne – This is the most common skin problem in the United States. Although it is often considered an adolescent condition, acne can strike at any age.
  • Atopic eczema/dermatitis - Also called atopic eczema, this common condition usually begins early in life. For about 50 percent of afflicted patients, the problem continues into adulthood.
  • Skin Cancers and pre-cancers – Skin cancer screenings by a dermatologist and regular self-checks are vital to your health. Any suspicious spot/bump/lesion that appears on your skin should be investigated by a dermatologist.
  • Melasma – Sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy" this condition causes large, brown patches on the face and neck.
  • Psoriasis – This is a relatively common, chronic inflammatory skin disease, which may also affect the joints. There are several newer, effective treatments for this condition that have been developed over the past few years.
  • Rosacea – This is often confused with acne, although the two conditions are unrelated. Rosacea causes redness of the cheeks, nose, chin and sometimes the neck, chest and ears. Depending on the type of rosacea, you may also have thickened patches of skin, acne-like bumps, visible blood vessels, eye irritation, and even gradual deformity of the nose.

Board-Certified Pediatric Dermatology

Mireille Chae, MD, FAAD is one of only three board-certified pediatric dermatologists in the state.

She understands the fragile nature and special needs of young skin. She is also a pediatrician and has a wonderful rapport with children.

Please click on the Patient Info button in the right-hand column of this page and then click on Information on skin diseases for a detailed description of all of the conditions which we treat.

A few of the most common pediatric skin conditions include:
  • Acne – This is the most common skin concern of teenagers, but it can appear in young children, and even infants. Without treatment, it can leave permanent scars.
  • Atopic eczema/dermatitis – This well-known skin condition, often called atopic eczema, usually begins between the age of two and puberty, although it can occur in younger infants.
  • Diaper rash – This itchy skin eruption is usually caused by excess moisture irritating the skin, although it may be complicated by localized infections.
  • Hives/Urticaria – These red or pink welts appear as a result of an allergic reaction. Anyone can get hives at any age. However, allergies are most often discovered in childhood, making this a common and unexpected problem for children.
  • Molluscum contagiosum – This viral infection causes flesh-colored or pink bumps on the skin. Although it is actually harmless, it is highly contagious, often transferred through sports or playground equipment.

BLU-U / Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), using the BLU-U light is an excellent treatment option for acne patients who prefer not to take oral antibiotics. Some insurances will pay for PDT acne treatments.

It is also considered a first line treatment for pre-cancerous lesions (actinic keratoses) and most insurances will cover PDT treatment of pre-cancers.

Phototherapy (Narrowband-UVB and PUVA light therapy)

Specialized ultraviolet light therapy, known as Narrowband-UVB (NB-UVB) and PUVA, can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions safely and effectively. Each session only takes a few minutes, and treatment may be repeated up to three times weekly, until improvement is achieved.

North Sound Dermatology's offices are equipped with the state-of-the-art Daavlin M-Series narrowband-UVB hand and foot units, as well as the Daavlin Series 3 narrowband-UVB units, for superior results. This is an effective therapy for conditions such as eczema/dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, generalized itchy skin, and more.
